How to Set Your Mind on Things Above: 6 Ways to Let Go of Earthly Things

How to Set Your Mind on Things Above: 6 Ways to Let Go of Earthly Things Debbie McDaniel Set your minds on things above, not on earth...

Grant me a good night's sleep tonight, God, so that I can awake refreshed and ready to begin another day loving you. Thank you again for blessings so undeserved and too numerous to count. I love being your child, and I long for the word "faithful" to describe my service to you, each day of every year. When I awake in the morning, may it be with a joyful smile, not a grumpy spirit. May your protection and your presence bathe this place with peace and safety against the enemy. Good night, Lord. In Jesus's name, Amen. ~ Rebecca Barlow Jordan
  Change:

Everything in this world is so unstable, pitching like a ship on the ocean. Only one thing remains unmovable—who God is. His character and intentions are not called into question just because everything else is shifting. In fact, He’s the only thing we can depend on to never change.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
When the ground shakes beneath you, don’t run away from God. Press into Him with the full assurance that He will hold you close while everything crumbles. That He will give you the answers you need when you need them. And that His heart toward you is good all the time.

Falling Apart???

We are surrounded by reports of wars, political unrest, identity thefts, disease, abuse, drugs, and persecution of Christians in certain parts of the world. This could lead us to believe that the world is falling apart.
When the world sees uncertainty and chaos, isn’t it possible for the church and individual Christians to see opportunity? What better time to proclaim to the world a God we can depend on? We need only to read scripture and know that God is in control. Jesus explains in Luke 18:6-8 that those who cry out to God will get justice, and then, wanting to spur the listeners to greater faith, he asks, “When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Just imagine how much we can do! Now is the time for Christians to live their faith.
