As I read Romans 5:8, today’s key Scripture, I’m blown away by the commitment and unconditional love our Heavenly Father demonstrated from the beginning: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

His commitment was to love us, even as we demonstrated how unlovable we could be.

If you’re in a place where your relationship with God feels distant, or you’re punishing yourself because you fell short, it’s important to remind yourself that your relationship with God is a long-term commitment.

It’s for all of your days.

He loved you while you were yet a sinner. He loves you on those days when you bring joy to Him. He loves you when you take that big leap of faith and fall flat on your face. He loves you as you grow in your knowledge and understanding of Him. He loves you when you mess up and confess your need for a fresh start.

The biggest mistake we can make is to walk away from that love for any reason.

Yet His love never wavers.

How will we respond to such a great love?

We choose to love Him back, for all our days.

Father, You chose to love me while I was yet a sinner. I choose to love You back. On good days. On hard days. When my faith is tested and when my joy is overflowing. I love You, Heavenly Father, all my days. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“In Christ alone my soul finds rest”

If you are serving the Lord, wherever that might be, you are doing a great work for God. Maybe you’re an usher at church. You’re doing a great work for God. Maybe you’re a Sunday school teacher. You’re doing a great work for God. Maybe you’re a worship leader. You’re doing a great work for God.

One person’s work for God is not greater than another person’s work. It is not about better or worse, greater or lesser. It is all about faithfulness—faithfulness in doing what God has called each of us to do. I will be judged according to what the Lord calls me to do, and you will be judged according to what He calls you to do.

Nehemiah was doing a great work for God as he rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem. But his enemies tried to convince him to come down from the wall for a meeting, and they were relentless. It was a diversion to get Nehemiah off the wall so they could attack, but he refused to come down. Nehemiah said, “Four times they sent the same message, and each time I gave the same reply” (Nehemiah 6:4 NLT).

Whatever work God has called you to do, do it all the way to the end. Take each day and treat it as though it were your last, because you don’t know how long you’ll be running the race of life. You don’t know where you are in your race. You may think you’re at the beginning when, in reality, you may be toward the end. You may think that you’re toward the middle when actually you’re more toward the beginning. That is why every day counts, every lap counts, and every moment counts. Finish the work God has called you to do.

We don’t have to earn God’s love.

Father God, help us to walk through today covered in the knowledge of your love for us. Help us to remember our purpose in you. Amen.

Test

 Rely upon the God who raises from the dead. Throw aside any foolish remnants of 

self-sufficiency and depend wholly upon our mighty, powerful God. Depend upon God to work in your rebellious children. Depend upon God to work mightily in your shaky marriage. Depend upon God to save your “unsavable” relative. Depend upon God to give you physical and emotional strength to serve your family. Depend upon the God who slays giants, shuts lions’ mouths, and rescues out of fiery furnaces.

God does incredible things when we stop relying upon our own abilities and start relying on him. He does incredible things when we finally give up on our own abilities and find all our strength in him. God is your best friend!!!
